Main purpose of the job:

To coordinate, provide and facilitate a wide range of activities, in partnership with care teams which are meaningful, stimulating and enhance the wellbeing of residents’ lives.

To understand and uphold in practice the need of promoting the philosophy of privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment for all the residents, therefore treating everyone with respect.

Within the home the post of Activities Lead/ Co-ordinator is to be creative, innovative and motivational in the delivery and guiding the care team of the activity programme under the direction of the home manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To participate in enhancing the intellectual and social wellbeing of the residents to provide as far as possible, a happy and stimulating experience. Support residents to socialise within the Care Home and the wider community.

2. To deliver a high level of meaningful activities tailor made to the residents, either as a group or a one-to-one basis, taking into consideration the residents life story, previous and current hobbies and occupation.

3. To maintain good communication levels with Manager, Nurses, Lodge leads, home makers, Chef and relatives to ensure smooth operation of role and high levels of co-operation. Support all areas of team working within the home, to the extent that the role remains an integral element of the daily routines.

4. To update the Care Home website & social media with reviews from Care Home website, events, activities and current news via the designated creative communications company.

5. To ensure the individual rights of residents and staff are safeguarded in accordance with the Home’s philosophy of care by being aware of the working practices and activities being actioned.

6. To plan ongoing weekly activity programmes in conjunction with the residents wishes and encourage residents to maintain pre-existing hobbies and have the opportunity to engage in new experiences.

7. To Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.

8. To encourage staff members, relatives and friends to participate in the Home’s activity and wellbeing programme.

9. To work individually and within the team to provide the necessary back up for all staff, to a standard commensurate with aims and objectives of the Home and in consideration of its residents.

10. To carry out any additional duties as requested.

11. To undertake any additional training and development programmes the Home may consider appropriate to enhance your contribution to the work at this Home.

12. To encourage involvement in the local community.

13. To assist the Home Manager in planning the Homes special events such as summer fetes, coffee mornings, Christmas lunches/dinners etc and including Care Home events such as Macmillan Coffee Morning and National Care Home Open day.

14. To create ideas and proposals that can be used across various platforms to support and promote the business. Including the resources provided by selected external activity resource platforms.

15. To complete records using the agreed Macc Care format and agree on monthly updates with your Home Manager.

To carry out any other reasonable duties as and when required by the organisation.
