At Macc Care, we understand that maintaining wellness in winter isn’t always easy.

When the nights are dark and the days are cold, it’s easy to curl up under a blanket and indulge in comfort foods.

While we’re still in the throes of winter, we’re sharing some helpful wellness tips to encourage you to maintain your health during the colder months:

care and wellness.

Maintain Your Social Connections

Social connections are at the core of our wellbeing; feeling lonely and isolated can impact your mental and physical health, and leave you feeling demotivated.

While it may feel tough at first to reach out, once you’ve got plans with your friends or family in place, and have something to look forward to, you’ll feel instantly better.

Whether it’s a video call with your grandchildren, dinner with friends, or a swimming class with strangers, being around people is the key to maintaining your wellness in winter!

Fostering social connections is a cornerstone of wellness at our Macc Care Homes; from communal activities to cherished family visits, our aim is to create a nurturing environment for each of our residents.

Take Part in Exercises for a Joyful Winter

Staying active is essential for physical and emotional wellness in winter. The more you move, the better you’ll feel — and the more you’ll want to do.

It may seem difficult at first to muster up the motivation to exercise on a cold, wet day, so why not ask a friend to join you?

This can provide you with the encouragement and accountability you need to succeed.

Whether it’s mirroring each other’s chair stretches in the comfort of your home, or going for a walk together in the park, having an exercise companion is certain to help improve your wellness in winter!

Essential Vitamins for Winter Wellness

Eating plenty of nutrient-rich foods, such as leafy, dark green vegetables, citrus fruits, bell peppers and berries is an excellent way to support your body’s wellness in winter.

You might find, however, that vitamin supplements can support your healthy lifestyle, giving you that extra boost when you need it most.

In particular, vitamin-D may be beneficial, particularly with the reduced sunlight associated with winter.

Vitamin-D can help support your bones, reducing the risk of skeletal-related health conditions.

Regular Health Check-ups for Peace of Mind

As we get older, we often start to experience a decline in many areas of health, including muscles, bones, joints, and brain.

In the winter months, when we’re naturally less active, this can be more pronounced. So, take the time to listen to your body, and seek medical help when needed.

Regular health check-ups, or ‘MOTs’, can offer peace of mind, and ensure you’re on the right track in your later years.
