Across our Macc Care homes this May, our residents, families, and local communities came together to mark VE Day 2025, commemorating 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.
The day was filled with song, stories, reflection and joy – reminding us of the power of shared moments and the importance of staying connected.

VE Day 2025 at Dora Rose: Honouring the Past with Music and Friendship
At Dora Rose in Stafford, VE Day 2025 began with a moving musical performance from local singer Kerry, who delighted residents with much-loved wartime classics.
Over the weekend, residents also took part in themed crafts, creating decorations that brought a festive spirit to the home.
As part of the commemorations, the home warmly welcomed local veterans for a complimentary breakfast – a gesture of appreciation for their service.
Representatives from the Royal British Legion Stafford Branch also joined, calling the occasion “marvellous” and expressing how meaningful it was to spend time with fellow veterans and share memories.
Intergenerational Joy at Watermead Rose for VE Day 2025
At Watermead Rose in Leicester, VE Day 2025 celebrations took a wonderfully intergenerational turn as residents were joined by children’s music and movement group Sidney Shakers.
The home hosted a lively music and movement session, featuring wartime songs that had everyone clapping and smiling. The joy was infectious – a true example of how music and shared history can bring people of all ages together.
Later in the day, residents and guests attended a commemorative service led by Minister Sheila. David, a member of the local church, offered a heartfelt address reflecting on his personal memories of VE Day, adding a deeply personal note to the gathering.
The Power of Remembrance: Why VE Day 2025 Matters
Events like these are more than just celebrations – they play a vital role in supporting residents’ emotional wellbeing and sense of identity.
At Macc Care, we understand how important it is to recognise days like VE Day 2025 not only as historical milestones, but as opportunities to reflect, connect, and spark meaningful conversation.
Sharing stories, hearing familiar songs, and engaging with the wider community all help residents feel valued and involved. These activities help foster a sense of belonging, improve mood, and reduce feelings of isolation – making them a key part of our person-centred approach to care.
VE Day 2025: Reflecting on Courage, Together
Bhav Amlani of Macc Care said: “VE Day 2025 gives us all a chance to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in the war, and to honour their legacy with gratitude.
“We believe that remembering and sharing these stories, especially across generations, is important in ensuring that the spirit of VE Day stays alive. We are proud to have marked this important day with a range of heart-warming events.”
At Macc Care, creating moments that matter is at the heart of everything we do. Through shared celebration and remembrance, VE Day 2025 reminded us all of the importance of unity, community, and care.
