What is the importance of community fundraising for our Macc Care homes?
At Macc Care, we take every opportunity to ensure our residents are able to thrive and, at times, it’s the generosity of our local community that supports us in our efforts.
Every day, we see families, friends, and local residents coming together to support and uplift those in our care. In this instance, it’s an 8-year-old local girl named Lacey who has wowed us with her gallant fundraising efforts.

Community Fundraising: A Big Heart in a Small Package
Lacey’s journey with Dora Rose, our Macc Care home in Milford, began earlier this year with a simple but heartfelt act of generosity.
In January, she decided to donate £20 to the residents’ fund. But what made this even more touching was the way she raised the money – by selling some of her own belongings, setting aside her pocket money, and even contributing what she had received from the tooth fairy.
Most children might have stopped there, feeling proud of their thoughtful donation – but not Lacey!
Going the Extra Mile – Literally!
Determined to continue supporting the residents of Dora Rose, Lacey recently took on a remarkable challenge: a fundraising walk spanning several miles.
Setting off from Brereton, Rugeley, she followed a route via Hart School and Marquis Drive, through Cannock Chase, before finally arriving at Dora Rose.
The journey, which should have been around 7.5 miles, turned out to be even longer when she took a wrong turn. But, undeterred, Lacey powered through, starting at 8:30 am and reaching her destination just after midday.
And waiting for her at the finish line? The entire Dora Rose team, ready to welcome her with open arms, banners, and enthusiastic applause.
Our deputy manager, Michelle, was among those cheering, expressing just how proud we all are of Lacey’s incredible achievement.
When asked what reward she would like for her efforts, her request was as simple and pure as her motivation: a burger and an ice cream. A small treat for a truly big-hearted act.
The Power of Community Fundraising
Lacey’s inspiring efforts highlight something we at Macc Care hold close to our hearts – the incredible impact of community involvement.
Fundraising, no matter how big or small, has the power to create joy, strengthen relationships, and improve the quality of life for our residents.
When members of the local community take the time to engage with our care homes, they bring fresh energy, new friendships, and a sense of belonging.
For our residents, these connections are invaluable. Whether it’s a visit from a school choir, a local business sponsoring an event, or an eight-year-old taking on a marathon walk, every act of kindness contributes to a richer, more fulfilling life for those in our care.
Community fundraising not only benefits our residents but also fosters a culture of compassion and social responsibility. It teaches young people – like Lacey – the importance of giving back and looking out for others.
Celebrating Young Changemakers
Lacey’s story serves as a beautiful reminder that you’re never too young to make a difference. Her commitment and enthusiasm are an inspiration, proving that a simple idea, paired with determination, can lead to something truly special.
At Macc Care, we want to celebrate young change-makers like Lacey, who remind us all of the importance of kindness and community spirit.
Her fundraising has already made an impact, and we’re so excited to see what she does next. Whether she continues her fundraising efforts or inspires others to take action, one thing is certain – Lacey has made a lasting impression on the hearts of everyone at Dora Rose.
How Can You Make a Difference?
Lacey’s story is just one of many examples of how local communities can come together to support their care homes. If you feel inspired by her efforts and want to get involved, there are plenty of ways to help.
From fundraising walks to coffee mornings, donation drives, and volunteer visits, every contribution – big or small – makes a difference.
If you or someone you know would like to support our homes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team.
