A lifelong Birmingham City supporter has made an emotional return to the club’s stadium after four years away, thanks to a special visit organised by the team at Heathview Rose.
For resident Mark Hands, 65, the trip was an opportunity to reconnect with a passion that has been part of his life for decades, revisit treasured memories and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the home of the Blues.
Reconnecting with a lifelong passion
Mark has supported Birmingham City throughout his life and previously attended matches regularly with friends.
However, changes to his health had prevented him from returning to the stadium in recent years.
Knowing how much the club continued to mean to him, the Heathview Rose team arranged a special stadium tour as the new football season got under way.
The visit was shaped around Mark’s interests and life history, giving him the chance to return to a place that holds many happy memories.
A behind-the-scenes experience
During the tour, Mark was able to sit in the stands and once again take in the familiar surroundings of the stadium.
He also visited the players’ dressing room and stepped inside the media suite used for post-match interviews.
The tour gave him access to parts of the stadium he would not ordinarily have experienced as a supporter, while also giving him plenty of opportunities to reminisce about attending matches over the years.
Mark said: “Birmingham City has always been a big part of my life, so being back at the stadium meant a lot to me. It brought back so many memories of going to matches over the years and enjoying the football with friends.
“I’m really grateful to everyone who made the visit possible. It was the best day of my life in a very long time and it has truly excited me for the new season.”
