We understand that when first entering the world of care, it’s easy to be daunted by the amount of new terminology which is used. When considering care for either yourself or a loved one, it’s important to understand what is offered under each kind of care. Below we’ve explained what each care variety is, and where applicable have stated which of our Macc Care homes cater for these requirements. If you have any further questions, or are still unsure of which care variety is appropriate, please do not hesitate to contact us, here.

Domiciliary Care
, is care provided at your own home.
This is a good option for those who feel that they can still manage every-day tasks, without constant support. Domiciliary Care is likely to include carers coming to your own home and helping you with every-day tasks. This may include washing, dressing, and cleaning, as well as help with taking medication and maintaining medical observation. The frequency and duration of their visits will depend on your individual requirements.

Respite Care is a temporary period of residency within a care home, usually covering a few weeks. This can also be particularly useful for residents to gain strength after a hospital visit, or bout of illness. This option is additionally used to provide a break for family members and carers who would not normally have the additional support of a care home. This is a very popular mode of residency and sees many people get back on track after difficult periods.

Our homes offer Respite Care wherever possible, however, occasionally are unable to accommodate this due to lack of space. Please contact homes individually to discuss availability with a member of staff.

Residential Care is provided in a care home setting and is for people who would like extra support and care but for whom Nursing Care (defined below) is not needed. Residential Care is the perfect option for those who wish to have the worry of every-day living taken from their shoulders. Those within Residential Care can expect to have their food cooked for them, their washing and cleaning completed for them, and help with every-day medicine taking. This affords those undertaking this option, the luxury of not having to take responsibility for these issues themselves.

All of our Macc Care homes offer Residential Care, please view our homes’ pages for more information.

Nursing Care, Macc Care’s speciality – is provided for people who need constant monitoring but are suitably medically stable to not require hospitalisation. For those who have ongoing health problems, which are manageable outside of hospital, Nursing Care is the safest and best option. Whist still maintaining independence as much as possible, residents will be able to live their lives to the fullest, resting assured that their medical needs are taken care of.

All of our current homes are primarily geared up for Nursing Care, however please note that we have limited spaces within some of our homes and so have to consider these on a case-by-case basis. Please contact homes individually for more information.

Dementia Care is provided for those with Dementia in any stage, who feel that they require additional assistance with their every-day life. A care home can be a good option in this case as it provides additional support and reduces worry about every-day issues. Homes offering Dementia Care should have the correct accreditation to do so.

Please note that Macc Care offer Dementia Care on a case-by-case basis, due to the specialised nature of resources and facilities required for dementia with disruptive, abnormal behavioural pattern. Regrettably we are not able to provide care for those with Dementia which causes them to be disruptive. Please contact homes individually to discuss this with the team.
