Throughout October, our homes across the Midlands came together in a wave of pink to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It was wonderful to see residents, families, staff, and our local communities all getting involved in Breast Cancer Now’s annual Wear It Pink campaign.

Each of our homes brought their own creativity and energy to the efforts; from coffee mornings and afternoon teas to marathon walks and karaoke sessions, it was a month of putting the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’ – for a very important cause.

At Macc Care, we’re always looking for ways to bring people together and make a difference, and this campaign gave us the chance to do just that.

Fundraising for Breast Cancer: Coffee Morning

At Sutton Rose, we kicked things off with a cheerful coffee morning. Residents, relatives, and staff all dressed in their brightest pink outfits and filled the room with conversation and laughter. The tables were laden with homemade cakes and the tea and coffee was flowing.

By the end of the morning, the home had raised £145 thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who came along. It was a lovely reminder that when people come together, even small donations can make a big difference.

Keeping Active for a Worthy Cause

Over at Wyrley Rose, the team took a more active approach to fundraising. Staff and residents joined forces for a twelve-hour treadmill walk, keeping the momentum going all day long.

Between steps, there was plenty of cheering, music, and encouragement from those who came to support.

At Willow Rose in Willenhall, the team swapped walking for cycling, completing an eight-hour cycle challenge, radiating enthusiasm and determination all round – with the Mayor of Walsall, Louise Harrison, even joining in the fun.

After being given a tour of the home, she hopped on a bike herself to show her support. The event raised almost £70 and left everyone feeling proud of what they’d achieved together.

Singing for Strength

Wulfrun Rose was just as busy, with our team showing their support in a very different way – by singing their hearts out. Residents and staff took part in a twelve-hour karaoke marathon, performing everything from wartime classics to modern chart hits.

There was a real sense of joy and togetherness, with everyone joining in, whether they were performing, clapping along, or simply enjoying the music.

A Day of Kindness and Connection

At Watermead Rose in Leicester, the team put together a two-part campaign that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

Early in the morning, Sue Estcourt, our Customer Relationship Manager, visited the Breast Care Centre at Glenfield Hospital to deliver a special hamper for the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to support patients every day.

Back at the home, residents and visitors enjoyed a pink-themed afternoon tea, complete with a breast cancer awareness quiz and a glass of “Boobly”.

There were information stands set up to encourage regular screening and self-checks, helping to spread an important message about early detection. The donations are still coming in, and the team is continuing to raise awareness throughout the month.

Walking Together in Solihull

In Solihull, Blossomfield Rose went the extra mile – quite literally – by completing a half-marathon walk around the home’s grounds. Staff, residents, and supporters joined in the challenge, raising money for local charity Breast Friends Solihull, which provides support to those affected by breast cancer.

So far, the home has raised over £200, with donations still coming in. The event was not only a fantastic fundraiser, but also a lovely opportunity for everyone to spend time outdoors, chat, and share stories along the way.

A United Effort Across Our Homes

Every pound raised across our homes will go towards supporting Breast Cancer Now’s vital research and the work they do to help those affected by breast cancer. It’s a cause that touches so many lives, and we’re honoured to play even a small part in supporting it.

Our director here at Macc Care, Bhav Amlani, said: “It’s always inspiring to see the creativity and compassion that exists within our homes, and Wear It Pink Day was a wonderful reflection of that.

“Whether it was walking, cycling, baking, or singing, each event helped to raise not only vital funds but also awareness and connection. We’re incredibly proud of our residents, staff, and supporters who came together to make a difference. Their kindness and enthusiasm are truly appreciated.”

Coming Together for a Common Cause

This month of fundraising for breast cancer reminded us what makes our homes so special – the people. Every event, song, and step taken was powered by compassion and community spirit and, for our residents, it was a chance to share in something meaningful.

As a group, we’re proud to continue supporting causes that make a real difference, both locally and nationally.
