At Macc Care, we believe that wellbeing in care homes goes far beyond meeting physical needs.

True wellbeing is about supporting the emotional, mental, social and physical needs of each individual, every single day. As the care sector continues to evolve, the importance of wellbeing in care homes has never been more widely recognised – not just for residents, but for staff, families and the wider community too.

That belief sits at the heart of everything we do, which is why initiatives such as Wellbeing Week at Perdiswell Rose play such a vital role across our homes.

The Importance of Wellbeing in Care Homes for Residents

Wellbeing in care homes is essential to quality of life. While clinical care and safety are fundamental, residents often thrive when they feel emotionally supported, connected and valued as individuals. A strong focus on wellbeing can reduce anxiety, improve mood, encourage independence and create a genuine sense of purpose.

At Macc Care, we recognise that every resident’s idea of wellbeing is different. For some, it may be music, movement or time outdoors. For others, it could be meaningful conversation or creative expression. Supporting wellbeing in care homes means listening carefully, offering choice and ensuring residents remain active participants in their own lives.

Wellbeing in Care Homes and the Role of Emotional Health

Emotional health is a key component of wellbeing in care homes. Later life can bring significant transitions, including changes to health, independence and living environments.

At Macc Care, we place huge importance on emotional wellbeing. Our teams build strong, trusting relationships with residents, taking time to understand their life stories, preferences and feelings.

Our Wellbeing Week at Perdiswell Rose helped to shine a light on emotional health, encouraging activities designed to promote connection and joy. From group discussions and physio sessions to nutrition activities and sound therapy, we created space for residents to learn about the different pillars of wellbeing and understand how to nourish their minds and bodies.

Supporting Physical Health and Independence

Physical wellbeing is a vital part of wellbeing in care homes, but it’s about much more than managing medical conditions. Staying active, maintaining mobility and encouraging independence all contribute to confidence, self-esteem and overall happiness.

During Perdiswell Rose’s Wellbeing Week, we placed a strong emphasis on gentle movement and physical activity that is inclusive and enjoyable. This included physio sessions and one-to-one demonstrations in the gym.

All the sessions in our activities programmes across our homes are adapted to individual abilities, ensuring everyone can take part in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.

By embedding physical wellbeing into daily life, we help our residents maintain their strength, reducing the risk of falls and allowing them to enjoy greater freedom and independence.

Wellbeing in Care Homes Through Meaningful Connection

Social connection is a cornerstone of wellbeing in care homes. Loneliness and isolation can have a serious impact on health, particularly for older people, and so creating opportunities for meaningful interaction is essential.

Group activities, shared meals, themed days and family involvement all help strengthen relationships and build community within our homes. As a group, we encourage intergenerational connections and links with the local community wherever possible.

In line with this, Perdiswell Rose invited the wider community to its Wellbeing Week in a bid to bring people together. More than 40 members of the public attended throughout the event, helping to not only boost their own wellbeing, but also provide essential connections for our residents through a series of creative workshops, sensory sessions, nutrition-focused activities and relaxation spaces.

Our Commitment to Wellbeing in Care Homes

At Macc Care, wellbeing in care homes is a long-term commitment. We continually review our practices, listen to our residents, staff and families, and adapt our approach to ensure wellbeing remains central to daily life.

Through initiatives like Wellbeing Week and our everyday culture of care, we’re proud to support all those in our Macc Care family to live healthier, happier lives.
